Tough Questions Christians Face

12 Jul

Ligionier Ministries (R.C. Sproul, Sr.) recently held their national conference, the theme of which was “Tough Questions Christians Face.”  Each plenary session asked and answered a difficult question that Christians wrestle with; questions ranged from interpretive issues (“Why does the Earth look so old?” by Dr. Albert Mohler) to pastoral concerns (“Will I enjoy heaven with loved ones in hell?” by R.C. Sproul, Sr.) to theology (“Is the Bible Just Another Book” by Steven Lawson, “Why did Jesus have to die?” by John MacArthur).

Seeds Family Worship

24 Jun

Seeds Family Worship is a group that takes Scripture verses (from the NIV) and puts them to music.  They offer their albums to listen online here.

These are really well done.  SFW is geared toward children, but adults can certainly benefit from these as well.  When you purchase a CD, you actually purchase two: they give you one for yourself and one to give to a friend as a “seed.”

Give SFW a look and a listen.

Red Letter from Re:Sound

01 Apr

Mars Hill Church has released an album that is available for free download.  Here’s a description of the album, quoted by Justin Taylor:

These 9 songs represent hundreds of hours of writing, refining, and recording, and each has a place in the worshiping life of Mars Hill Church. Red Letter joins lyrics born out of profound gospel reflection with aggressive music that matches the depth and weight of the text. I could not recommend a set of songs more strongly.

“Aggressive music” means electric guitars, drums, driving bass-line, etc. for the record.  Which is to say, if you’re an organ-only hymn exclusivist, this isn’t for you.  The lyrics are indeed thoughtful and worshipful.  Here are the lyrics for the first track, “God Is Our Strength”:

We will not fear…though the earth gives way
Though mountains fall…into the sea
We will not shake
Though waters roar
God is our strength

Come and behold…the works of the Lord
Righteous in peace…righteous in wrath
He lifts His voice…the earth melts away
Yet He gives grace

Since we have received a kingdom
A kingdom which can’t be
Shaken or destroyed
We will bend our knees

In awe and reverence praise the beauty of His ways:
Amid His righteous wrath is the only peace that lasts.
